furkids who deserves a second chance

Why go to a pet shop when there are homeless puppies who need your love? Singapore has hundreds of mongrels in need of homes. If nobody adopts them, they get put to sleep after a life on the streets. These guys deserve better. They deserve a roof over their heads, proper food and more belly rubs. Adopt to give them a better life.

Because mongrels need us more. Everyone knows about Huskies, Corgis or Poodles, but hardly anyone ever thinks mongrel when they want a dog. They're truly the underdogs among dogs. EM is working to change that. We think that mongrels are just as lovely and twice as fun. They will make great companions if you give them a chance.

    The Misunderstood Breed

What should I know before I adopt?

It’s easy. Just fill in the adoption form and we’ll be in touch. However, not everyone can adopt a mongrel due to AVS housing regulations. If you live in a condo or a landed estate, there are no limitations on adoption. If you’re a HDB-dweller, you can only adopt mongrels which are HDB-approved under Project ADORE. They must be no taller than 55 cm from shoulder to floor.

      Update : 23 Apr 2021

Playing did not come naturally to Chewie and a tennis ball used to mean nothing to him. With proper guidance and relationship building, Chewie has learnt how to play and boy, does he play well.

Chewie is looking for his furever home urgently. He is highly intelligent and will do well with someone willing to commit time and effort to training him.

We are happy to assist with paying for his training as long as adopter is committed to ensuring Chewie receives continuous reinforcement on his behavior.

      Update 30 Apr 2021 :

The Shirt-up campaign, "Say NO to electric collars, prong collars and choke chains" has come to a close. West Coast Vetcare would like to thank all who have purchased a t-shirt and to those who have donated to the 5 Animal Welfare Groups.

A total amount of $6485 was raised through the t-shirt sales and a total amount of $10,025 was raised through donations.

As at 30 April 2021, the following amounts have been disbursed to the 5 AWGS:

      Action for Singapore Dogs: $3397

      Chained Dog Awareness Singapore: $3452

      Exclusively Mongrels: $3477

      Purely Adoptions: $3152

Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter: $3032

For EM, the full amount of our share has been used for training and rehabilitation purposes of 2 of our dogs;  :

      - Kutty, that was surrendered by his last owner to the AVS to be put down due to aggression and

      - Chewbacca, a returned dog of ours when his last owner left SG 2 years ago and dumped him back at us.

These 2 dogs are currently receiving continuous positive reinforcement training and are seeking good, patient and understanding adopters to give them great homes.

Thank you once again and it is a sincere hope that all pet owners will choose humane training methods for their pets.

Looking to buy a T-shirt that is meaningful and at the same time raises funds for Animal Welfare Groups? (EVENT CLOSED)

Three T-shirts designs are being launched and sold at $20 each. The proceeds from the sales will go to the training budget of 5 AWGs :

      - Chained Dog Awareness Singapore,

      - Purely Adoptions,

      - Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter,

      - Exclusively Mongrels Singapore and

      - Action for Singapore Dogs.

These funds are to be used for dogs who need assistance in behaviour rehabilitation to help improve their chances for successful adoption and assimilation into our urban environment.

Most of these dogs have been identified under the Trap Neuter Release Management scheme where stray dogs suitable for rehoming are matched with adopters. These dogs may still need some adjustment to urban domesticated lifestyles and adopters also need to learn how to manage their dog’s anxieties and fears.

Some of these dogs may also have had homes before, but were abused, caged or chained and now need to learn to trust in humans again.

In addition, the message on the T-shirts serve to educate the public to choose science based, positive, force free, humane training methods for their furkids and to say NO to electric collars, prong collars and choke chains.

Shirt up to spread the word in support of positive, force free, humane training methods for our pets !

Let’s create awareness and spread the message: “Choose Force Free, Say NO to electric, choke and prong collars.”

The T-shirts are available for sale and self pick-up at West Coast Vetcare, United

Veterinary Clinic, Gentle Oak Veterinary Clinic, Animal & Avian Veterinary Clinic, Canine Wellness & Rehab Centre or can be couriered.
