Help EM Stand By the Dogs Who Still Need Us

They Were Rescued. But Their Journey Didn't End There.

When a dog is rescued, we often imagine the ultimate happy ending: a safe home, a loving family, and a fresh start to a forever after. But for some Singapore Specials, the journey does not end when they leave the pound or off the streets.

Kutty was surrendered by his previous owner to be put down. Years ago, EM stepped in and bailed him out from the AVS pound, giving him another chance at life. Today, Kutty is still under EM's care. For the past year, he has been battling cancer and Cushing's disease. His medical bills have already gone beyond S$40,000, with EM continuing to support the veterinary care he needs. Today, he is still being treated for his illnesses regularly and his fosterer has been providing him with the care, love and the safety of a home until he passes. This is our collective promise to Kutty, that we will walk the journey with him, come what may. Kutty is one dog. But he is not the only one who still needs EM.

Some Dogs Have Nowhere Else to Go

For some rescued dogs, finding a new home is not always possible.

Trooper was returned to EM because of his bite history and aggression. He is not suitable for rehoming and has been in home boarding for the past three years, after a year in commercial board and train. During this time, EM has continued paying for his medical care, transport, food and boarding.

Oreo was also returned to EM after several bite incidents. He is currently boarded in the same home as Trooper, with EM continuing to provide his food and medical care.

And then there is Ellie, bailed out from the pound around 2.5 years back. Ellie is extremely human shy and unfortunately has not been able to form a bond with any human (not even her fosterer). That has made her rehoming significantly challenging as she will not allow herself to be patted. Ellie has been in foster care for the past 2 years and we need to prepare for the day when our finances are activated for any medical assistance that may be required for a senior dog.

These dogs still need someone to stand by them. They need medical care. They need food. They need transport and a safe place to stay. And for dogs who cannot be rehomed, these costs can continue for months or even years.

EM Stays When Others Can't

Exclusively Mongrels (EM) was established in 2012 to advance the welfare of Singapore Specials. Its public materials emphasise giving mongrels a second chance and providing them with a safe environment, proper food and care.

Over the years, EM has appealed to supporters for help with different needs, including food, training, medical care and boarding. The need continues because the commitment continues.

When Kutty needs ongoing medical care, EM stays.

When Trooper and Oreo cannot be safely rehomed, EM stays.

When Ellie arrived with an uncertain future, EM steps in.

These dogs may have very different stories, but they share one thing: They still have EM and our dedicated fosterers. And EM needs supporters to help continue caring for them.

Help EM Keep Caring for Them

EM is raising funds to help cover the medical needs of its rescued mongrel dogs, including dogs who require ongoing veterinary care and those whose medical conditions may become increasingly complex. This remains the priority, along with ongoing transport needs as well as welcoming new rescues and bailouts from the AVS. Your donation can help EM continue providing the care these dogs need while they remain under us.

Your Donation Can Help

S$30 - Help contribute towards the everyday care of a rescued mongrel under EM's care.

S$50 - Help contribute towards the medical and care costs of dogs who need ongoing support.

S$100 - Help EM meet the growing veterinary and care expenses of rescued dogs with medical needs.

S$250 - Help shoulder a larger share of the medical, food, transport and boarding costs EM continues to provide.

These are contributions towards EM's overall care and medical expenses; the exact use of funds will depend on the dogs' needs at the time.

Will You Stand by Them?

Some dogs are easy to overlook, especially Singapore Specials. Some have medical conditions that require expensive, ongoing treatment that never seem to cease. Some have behavioural challenges that make finding a new home challenging and perhaps impossible. But having to manage their medical care and being difficult to rehome does not make them less deserving of care.

Kutty was given another chance.

Trooper was given another chance.

Oreo was given another chance.

Ellie was given another chance.

And there will be more dogs that will walk through our doors to be given another chance.

Please donate today and help EM continue standing by the dogs who still need them. Because rescue should not end when a dog leaves the pound or off the streets.

Your donations will be matched at 50% by the TOTE board, so please donate generously and help us reach the target before end of 2026.

For dogs like Kutty, Trooper, Oreo and Ellie, EM is still their safety net.
